Accommodation and meals for persons granted temporary protection

The Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants provides appropriate accommodation for applicants for temporary protection and persons granted temporary protection who require it. Persons are initially received at the accommodation centre in Logatec and are then accommodated in available places in accommodation centres and other accommodation facilities.

ACCOMMODATION AT A PRIVATE ADDRESS

Persons granted temporary protection may find accommodation at a private address, with relatives or acquaintances, or arrange accommodation on the market. If you do not have sufficient financial means or property (assets), or if your maintenance is not provided by persons obliged to support you, you may apply for financial assistance for private accommodation.

ACCOMMODATION IN ACCOMMODATION CENTRES AND OTHER ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES

Persons granted temporary protection may be accommodated in various accommodation centres managed by the Office.

When accommodating persons granted temporary protection, the Office takes into account the individual’s vulnerability, the principle of maintaining the unity of the family, and the availability of places in accommodation centres and other accommodation facilities. This means that you may not necessarily be accommodated in the centre of your choice.

An unaccompanied minor granted temporary protection is accommodated, based on the opinion of the competent Social Work Centre, in an institution that is suitable for them and where appropriate treatment and care are ensured. They may also be accommodated with adult relatives or with a person who cared for them after their arrival in the Republic of Slovenia.

Persons granted temporary protection may also be placed in institutional care under the same conditions and procedures as citizens of the Republic of Slovenia. If it is not possible to place a person in institutional care, the Office may select an appropriate external provider to ensure adequate care and assistance.

If I am accommodated in an accommodation centre, am I entitled to free meals?

Meals are provided to persons granted temporary protection in all accommodation centres and in many other accommodation facilities, but not in all.

If you have sufficient income, benefits or property, or if your maintenance is provided by persons who are obliged and able to support you in accordance with the regulations of the Republic of Slovenia, you must reimburse the Office for the cost of meals. The cost of meals is determined by the contract concluded between the Office and the provider supplying meals in a particular accommodation centre or other accommodation facility.

The Office will determine in a separate procedure whether you are required to reimburse these costs and will issue a decision accordingly. You will then be invoiced on a monthly basis.

If you wish, you may opt out of meals for a specific day by submitting a written request. The Office will not require reimbursement for meals that have been cancelled in due time. Instructions, as well as the daily cost, are available on the notice board.

You may also waive your entitlement to meals entirely by submitting a written declaration, which you may later withdraw.

What rules must I follow if I am accommodated in accommodation facilities of the Office?

If you are accommodated in accommodation facilities of the Office, you must comply with the rules of residence and observe the prescribed house rules. You will be informed of these, as well as of extracts from the Decree on the house rules of accommodation centres and other accommodation facilities and the rules of residence in the accommodation facility, by an authorised official in a language you understand. You will also be required to sign a statement confirming that you have been informed of the house rules and fire safety rules, as well as the measures applicable in the event of breaches of the house rules in accommodation centres and other accommodation facilities.

Visits are permitted in accommodation centres, but only with a prior visitor permit issued by an official of the Office.

The act also lay down breaches of the house rules and the measures that may be imposed in the event of such breaches.

What measures may be imposed for breaches of the house rules?

The following measures may be imposed for breaches of the house rules:

  • written warning;
  • transfer to another accommodation centre or accommodation facility;
  • termination of accommodation in an accommodation centre or accommodation facility;
  • compensation for damage caused.

Measures for breaches of the house rules are imposed by way of a decision, except for a written warning, which is imposed by way of an order.
