You are entitled to obtain a single permit for the purpose of seeking employment or self-employment in so far as you are a foreigner with a valid temporary residence permit for the purpose of carrying out research or educational work or a foreigner with a temporary residence permit for the purpose of carrying out research work within the framework of a long-term relocation, and you have completed your research work in the Republic of Slovenia and are now seeking employment or self-employment in the Republic of Slovenia.

You are eligible to obtain a single permit on account of seeking employment or self-employment if you comply with the following requirements: you shall lodge an application with the competent authority of the Republic of Slovenia (administrative unit) to get a single permit that serves as a residence permit allowing you to stay in Slovenia to seek employment or self-employment; the competent authority regulating the employment and work of foreigners shall give its consent to the issue of your further (single) permit; you shall provide evidence produced by a research organisation in the Republic of Slovenia, confirming that you have completed your research work. If you are unable to submit the proof along with your application, you shall submit it by the deadline subsequently determined by the competent authority in the Republic of Slovenia. Upon lodging the application, the competent authority shall issue a certificate of the submitted application, which serves as a temporary residence permit until the final decision on your application is taken.

A single residence permit for the purpose of seeking employment or self-employment as a researcher shall be issued for a period of nine months. A researcher’s family member who resides in the Republic of Slovenia and has a valid temporary residence permit for a family member may have their temporary residence permit extended for the same period of time as the residence permit issued to the foreigner (i.e. the sponsor).
