Persons granted international protection are also eligible to receive child benefit, which is a supplementary income for the maintenance, upbringing and education of a child, and is claimed by one of the parents for a child under the age of 18 years, provided that he or she meets other conditions under the law governing family benefits. An additional condition stipulated in the Parental Protection and Family Benefits Act is the actual residence in the Republic of Slovenia.

The right to child benefit is granted for a maximum of one year and ends on the first day of the following month when the conditions are no longer fulfilled. A new application for recognition of the right to child benefit must be filed in the month in which the right to the child benefit expires, as is evident from the operative part of the decision on the right to the child benefit.
