Social assistance benefit in cash is intended to meet the minimum living requirements. You are eligible for such assistance if your per capita income is below the statutory income limit and you meet the other statutory criteria.

You are entitled to social assistance benefit in cash if you reside in the Republic of Slovenia and meet the following criteria:

  • you are a foreigner with a permanent residence permit in the Republic of Slovenia and permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia;
  • you are eligible for social assistance benefit in cash and minimum pension support pursuant to the international instruments binding on the Republic of Slovenia;
  • you do not have sufficient means for survival nor assets or savings to ensure survival; and
  • you are actively seeking solutions to your social problems.

The amount of social assistance benefit in cash depends on the level of income, the number of family members, assets, savings and the care provided, as well on the possible existence of fault-based grounds (e.g. not being registered with the Employment Centre of the Republic of Slovenia, or serving a prison sentence).

Social assistance benefit in cash is normally granted for a limited period, depending on the circumstances that serve as the basis for the allocation and amount of social assistance benefit.

More information is available at a local social work centre.

Important!

Social assistance benefit in cash is awarded on the month following the month in which the application was lodged. For example, if you lodged the application in January, you are entitled to social assistance benefit from February onwards.

In extraordinary circumstances (exceptional financial difficulties, accidents, etc.), you may also apply for exceptional social assistance in cash at a Social Work Centre.
