If you intend to become engaged in volunteer work in the Republic of Slovenia, you are entitled to obtain a temporary residence permit in so far as you have a volunteer agreement with a volunteer organisation or an organisation carrying out a volunteer programme or if you volunteer in EU volunteer projects which support the mobility of volunteers and are implemented on the basis of a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council, which aims to establish a programme to support the mobility of volunteers.

You can apply for a temporary residence permit on condition you meet the relevant requirements. The funds and pocket money specified in the volunteering agreement concluded with the voluntary organisation or organisation with a volunteer programme and the funds given to the foreigner by the voluntary organisation or organisation with a volunteer programme may also be taken into account as a proof that you comply with the requirement of having sufficient resources. When taking part in volunteer projects under an EU programme, a foreigner shall also provide a certificate issued by the national authority responsible for supervising the implementation of such a programme or by an organisation authorised by the national authority, and such certificate shall serve as a proof of your participation in volunteer activities.

An application for a temporary residence permit may be lodged by you or by a volunteer organisation or an organisation with a volunteer programme, and the application shall be filed with a diplomatic mission or consulate of the Republic of Slovenia abroad. An application may also be submitted to the competent authority in the Republic of Slovenia by a volunteer organisation or an organisation carrying out a volunteer programme.

The residence permit shall be issued for the duration of the project, but for a term not exceeding one year. If the agreement has been extended for a period longer than one year, the permit may be extended annually for a period of one year, but shall not be extended beyond the duration of the volunteer work or participation in the project.
